Red Barron over Kauai

We have a tradition of seeing new places from land, sea and air. We thought about booking a helicopter tour but that seemed so ordinary and those who really know me, know I do not do ordinary. We rented a biplane tour through Air Ventures.

This was our amazing pilot, Harry.  He went the extra mile before we even took off, to mount our GoPro camera to the wing strut. Harry also has a GoPro so he was most helpful in instructing with the best practices for pictures and video.

Thank you Air Ventures, I borrowed this map picture from your website. Our tour was a little over 60 minutes in the air. Perfect length of time. We headed south and circled clockwise around Kauai. The views were breathtaking. Harry narrated along the way with interesting facts about our sights. We wore headsets so it was easy to communicate.

Kauai is a beautiful, green island with so many different biomes from tropical rain forests and jungles to beaches, farmlands and the steep cliffs of the Na Pali coast. We flew over populated resorts and remote areas only accessible by boat or long hiking adventures.

Harry circled around many of the areas to ensure that we both could see highlighted points of interest.

I had read that views from a biplane were very obstructed. Yes, when you look directly out you do see the wing and struts but for the eyes it really does not hinder seeing the sights. They do make it difficult for a completely clear camera shot though. As you can see I did take a few pics with my iPhone. But, I was not up in the air having the biplane trip of a lifetime to take pics for others. Put the camera down and just enjoy the breathtaking views. A camera could never capture the total feeling involved in witnessing this in person. Enough said; my husband was controlling the GoPro (mounted on the wing strut) from his iPhone taking time lapse pics. This allowed him to let the camera do the work.
