Farm stands on the North side.

We took a 3 hour road trip this afternoon to the north side driving from Kapa'a to Kilauea. This took us through farm country. Not farms like corn and bean fields but farms like avocado and lemons. These farms are not easily seen from the roads. Farmer's build natural fence lines with tall thick hedges of trees and bushes.  The only sign to us that a farm was there was the self serve fruit stands next to the road. We just had to stop.

This stand sold mangos ($1), lilikois (passion fruit $.05) limes and lemons ($.25).

Here I bought an avacado for $.33 and macadamia nuts for $1.00 a pound. I'm anxious to try the nuts but our fully furnished kitchen is not furnished with a nut cracker. Hmmm.

I did not purchase anything from this cart, but did stop to take a peek.

This stand had pummelos for $.50. Guess I'm having grapefruit for breakfast tomorrow.

The next stand we stopped at had a girl working a refreshment stand, all organic and freshly made while you wait. We both  ordered frosties. I had mango/banana and Tim had pineapple. They were too yummy to last long enough for a pic. We also bought 3 apple bananas - miniature bananas but taste a little like an apple.

We asked the girl if she was from Kauai. She said that she was from Rhode Island. Her and her boyfriend were here to work for 3 months on the farm. They get free room and board in exchange for working at the farm.

We continued farther up the road looking for a place to stop for dinner hoping for a food truck. We found Paco's Tacos. It was run by 2 girls from Mexico. We both had fish tacos. One word - Amazing!!  I had a bottle of Jarritos Pineapple Pina. The girl was quick to point out that it was from Mexico and that meant it was made with 100% real sugar.

  1. Think I'll apply for a job at the stand next summer! It makes me hungry to read your posts.
